Conte & Roy-Williams Earn Athletes of the Month Honors
The Modesto Junior College Athletics Department proudly announces Jack Conte (Sonora High School) and Shaylan Roy-Williams (Turlock High School) as the April Male and Female Athletes of the Month following outstanding performances at both the conference and regional levels.
Roy-Williams capped off a dominant month by capturing four Big 8 Conference titles in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x100 relay, and long jump. Her leap of 6.01 meters in the long jump ranks No. 3 all-time in program history. She carried that momentum into the NorCal Championships, where she claimed titles in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100 relay, while also contributing to a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay—helping lead the Pirates to the NorCal team championship. Her times of 11.29 in the 100 and 23.80 in the 200 both rank No. 2 all-time at MJC, cementing her place among the program's all-time greats.
Conte also delivered an exceptional season for the Pirates men's tennis team. After playing at the No. 4 singles position a year ago, he elevated his performance to earn the No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles spots this season, holding both positions throughout the year. Conte captured the Big 8 Conference doubles championship alongside partner Nathin Dean, defeating a strong American River duo in the finals. Over his two-year career, he compiled a 26-15 doubles record while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA, exemplifying excellence both on the court and in the classroom.
Congratulations to Jack and Shaylan on this well-deserved recognition. #GoPirates ☠️
