Pirates Climb to #6 in State Rankings as Postseason Push Builds
The momentum keeps building for Modesto Junior College baseball, and the rest of the state is taking notice.
In the latest CCCBCA Home Run 30 Rankings released April 20, the Pirates surged three spots to No. 6 in California, marking one of the program's highest rankings this season. The jump comes at a critical point in the year, as conference races tighten and postseason seeding looms just around the corner.
MJC's rise is no accident. The Pirates have caught fire down the stretch, winning seven straight games, including a decisive three-game sweep over Diablo Valley. That stretch not only solidified their place atop the Big 8 Conference standings, but also positioned them as one of the hottest teams in Northern California heading into the final week of regular season play.
Offensively, Modesto has been explosive. Troy Morrow highlighted the series win with a dominant performance, going 6-for-12 with a home run, 10 RBIs, and three triples in the middle game alone. He now leads state in 3-baggers with 8. His production reflects a broader trend for the Pirates — timely hitting, power throughout the lineup, and the ability to break games open in key moments.
With a 27-9 overall record and momentum squarely on their side, the Pirates are playing their best baseball when it matters most. As the regular season winds down, Modesto isn't just climbing the rankings — they're positioning themselves as a serious contender heading into the postseason.
