Gleason Leads MJC Academic Honors with Perfect 4.0
The Modesto Junior College football program continues to prove its excellence extends far beyond the field, as seven student-athletes from the 2025 squad have earned All-State Academic Team recognition.
Leading the way is offensive lineman Gavin Gleason, who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA—an accomplishment reached by only nine players across the entire state of California. Gleason's elite academic performance sets the standard not only within the Pirates program, but statewide, highlighting the discipline and commitment required to balance athletics and academics at the highest level.
MJC's All-State Academic selections include:
- Gavin Gleason, OL — 4.00 GPA
- Glen Wever, TE — 3.90 GPA
- Jerardo Ponce, LB — 3.80 GPA
- Rob Vargas, LB — 3.80 GPA
- Jack Hinchey, DL — 3.70 GPA
- Cole Gilbert, QB — 3.70 GPA
- Wyatt Hudson, QB — 3.70 GPA
This group represents a strong culture of academic accountability within the program. From the trenches to the quarterback room, MJC players demonstrated that success in the classroom is just as important as performance on game day.
Gleason's perfect mark stands as a rare achievement, placing him among the top academic performers in California community college football. Meanwhile, the depth of honorees from Modesto reflects a program-wide commitment to excellence, with multiple players across different position groups earning recognition.
As MJC Football continues to build on its competitive success, these academic honors reinforce the program's mission: developing student-athletes who excel in every aspect of the collegiate experience.
For the Pirates, the message is clear—winning isn't just measured on the scoreboard, but in the classroom as well.
