Pirates Impress at 40th Mt. SAC Invitational Behind Strong Freshman Performances
The Modesto Junior College men's swim team traveled south to compete in the prestigious 40th Mt. SAC Swimming & Diving Invitational hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. Facing a deep field of talent from across the state, the Pirates delivered a competitive performance and finished 8th out of 21 schools.
Freshman Jacob Miller (Modesto HS) led the Pirates with an impressive all-around showing, scoring 59 team points. Miller placed 4th in the 500 freestyle, 6th in the 200 butterfly, and added 7th-place finishes in both the 1650 freestyle and 400 individual medley, showcasing his endurance and versatility.
Fellow freshman Ben Svoboda (Ripon HS) contributed 50 points with strong sprint and middle-distance performances. Svoboda finished 7th in the 100 freestyle, 8th in the 50 freestyle, and posted 9th-place finishes in the 200 freestyle, 100 IM, and 200 IM, demonstrating depth across multiple events.
Competing against one of the largest and most competitive fields of the season, the Pirates gained valuable experience and momentum heading into the heart of their schedule.
The team will have a break from competition this weekend before returning to action on March 13 at the Big 8 Invitational hosted by American River College.
With continued improvement and strong freshman leadership, the Pirates look to build on their success as the postseason approaches.
