MJC Men's Track Team Finish Fifth Place at 3C2A State Championships- Blake Gross Wins State Championship
Modesto Junior College's men's track and field team delivered one of the most impressive stories of the 2025 3C2A State Championships, finishing in fifth place overall, a repeat performance from last year, well ahead of their projected 10th-place ranking. With seven total athletes, Modesto rose to the occasion across multiple events, showcasing both depth and individual brilliance. Leading the charge were twins Blake and Brock Gross, who dominated the decathlon and set the tone for a weekend full of unexpected success.
Blake Gross claimed the decathlon title with a season-best 6,587 points, narrowly edging out his brother Brock (6,453). The two were virtually inseparable throughout the grueling 10-event contest, finishing just a second apart in the final 1,500 meters before teaming up again—less than an hour later—for the 4x400-meter relay. Their contribution helped Modesto's relay squad place fifth, adding valuable points to the team total. Blake's individual performances included standout efforts in the 400 meters (49.89), long jump (21'2.25"), and javelin (146'1"), among others—an all-around display of athleticism that made a decisive impact on the team's score.
Supporting the Gross twins were several other standout performers. Jeffrey Missouri nearly stole the show in the sprints, placing second in both the 100 meters (10.39) and 200 meters (21.55), scoring crucial points in highly competitive fields. Sebastian Arrizano threw 15.25 meters (50' 0.5") in the shot put to earn him 4th place and All-American hounors, while also throwing 44.26 meters (145'2") for seventh in the hammer throw. Zachary Early added to the tally with a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (49.11), while Lester Stavrianoudakis earned sixth in the discus (147'9"). In the triple jump, Anthony Grady secured a ninth-place finish. With strong showings across track and field events, Modesto's tight-knit team outperformed expectations and proved themselves as a rising force in the state.
