Pirates Stay Perfect in League, Face Tough Tests at Cuesta Tournament
The Modesto Junior College men's water polo team had a busy week, picking up a key conference win before running into some of the state's top competition over the weekend.
On Wednesday, the Pirates hosted Diablo Valley College in a Big 8 matchup. The game was deadlocked 8-8 heading into the fourth quarter, but MJC took control down the stretch, scoring five unanswered goals to seal a 13-8 victory. The win improved the Pirates to 2-0 in league play.
Over the weekend, MJC traveled to San Luis Obispo for the Cuesta College Tournament, where they faced three top-10 programs. Despite strong efforts, the Pirates came up short in each contest, falling 12-11 to LA Valley, 23-7 to powerhouse Golden West, and 17-6 to Mt. San Antonio.

The Pirates (11-6 overall, 2-0 Big 8) remain tied with American River College atop the league standings. They'll look to keep their conference momentum going this Wednesday when they travel to Delta College, followed by a trip south to Saddleback College for a four-game slate against Southern California opponents.
