Pirates Advance: MJC Downs Reedley in 3C2A NorCal Round 1, Sets Up Showdown at Delta
The Modesto Junior College Pirates opened postseason play in impressive fashion on February 25, defeating Reedley 70–60 in the 3C2A NorCal Regionals Playoffs, Round 1 on the road.
With a spot in the next round on the line, Modesto came out focused, building a 16–11 lead after the first quarter. Reedley answered in the second quarter, outscoring the Pirates 20–13 to take a narrow 31–29 halftime lead.
Coming out of the break, Modesto flipped the momentum. The Pirates controlled the third quarter 20–14 and closed strong in the fourth, outscoring Reedley 21–15 to secure the 10-point postseason victory.
Rayne Tago led the way with a dominant double-double, scoring a game-high 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting while pulling down 10 rebounds. Siena Musson delivered an efficient and explosive performance, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. She also added six rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block in a complete all-around effort.
Madison Duron added 12 points and nine rebounds, going 6-of-8 from the free throw line and anchoring the Pirates inside. Off the bench, Alessandra Montes provided a spark with eight points and nine rebounds, including five offensive boards that helped Modesto dominate second-chance opportunities.
Taylor Macias contributed five rebounds and three assists, while Izabella Sanchez made her presence felt defensively with two steals and a block.
As a team, Modesto shot 41.5% from the field and 73.7% from the free throw line (14-of-19). The Pirates controlled the glass 45–32, including 13 offensive rebounds, a key factor in advancing in postseason play.
With the first round victory, Modesto advances to face San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs in Round 2 of the 3C2A NorCal Regionals. The Pirates will travel to face the Mustangs on Saturday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Delta College, with a trip further into the regional bracket on the line.
