Bio
Rachel Finnegan is entering her 7th season as MJC’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach. Since taking over at MJC, the program went from a 2 win season in her first year, 14 wins in her second, and finished with 20 wins, a state playoff birth, and a top 20 ranking her third season. MJC has continued that momentum advancing to the postseason every year since. Last season, the team finished 4th in the Big 8 Conference, consistently recognized as one of the top conferences in the state, and also sent its only sophomore, Sara Davis, on to play at Stanislaus State University.
Rachel also serves as a faculty member in MJC’s Kinesiology and Physical Education Department. Prior to MJC, she previously coached three years as the assistant basketball coach at Cal State Stanislaus under Wayman Strickland. Finnegan helped assist Stanislaus State to two consecutive conference tournament appearances, including a first-round win over Cal State L.A. in 2017. Prior to arriving on the CSU Stanislaus campus, Finnegan was an assistant coach at California High School in San Ramon.
Finnegan played two seasons at Cal State East Bay as she helped lead the Pioneers to its first CCAA tournament appearance during her senior season in 2014 under Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. She also spent her first two collegiate seasons at San Jose State playing for Pam DeCosta in her first season and Tim LaKose her sophomore season.
Finnegan obtained her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Cal State East Bay and received her Master’s in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University of Irvine. She also worked with the San Francisco 49ers as a Executive Guest Relations Representative during her college years. She was a 2009 graduate of Turlock High School. At Turlock High, Finnegan was a two-time league Most Valuable Player while leading the Bulldogs to two conference championships. As a junior, she was the Modesto Bee District Player of the Year and was named to the Cal-Hi Sports All-State team as a senior.
