3C2A Women's Golf State Championship Day 1
SOLVANG, CA – Battling relentless rain and a water-logged layout, the Modesto Junior College women's golf team delivered a gritty opening-round performance at the 3C2A State Championship on the River Course at the Alisal. Heavy downpours and soaked fairways forced competitors to grind for every yard, but the Pirates embraced the challenge, posting a strong 324 team total to sit just one stroke off the co-leaders, Reedley and Orange Coast College, who share the top spot at 323.
MJC was powered by a pair of standout rounds from its top two players. Sydney Streeter turned in one of the day's best scorecards, firing a composed +4 (76) to secure 4th place on the individual leaderboard despite the harsh weather. Right behind her, Aaliyah Martinez carded a steady +7 (79), good for 8th place overall. Their consistency proved critical as much of the field struggled to adapt to the unforgiving conditions that significantly lengthened the course and penalized any errant shots.
With individual performers inside the top ten and the Pirates positioned just a single stroke off the lead, MJC enters Monday's final round firmly in championship contention. The Pirates will look to tighten their approach play, manage the soft conditions, and capitalize on scoring opportunities as they chase what could become one of the program's most memorable State Championship finishes. All eyes now turn to Solvang as Modesto heads into the final 18 holes with momentum, confidence, and a legitimate shot at bringing home 3C2A hardware.
