Track and Field Teams Put on Strong Showing at State Championships
The Modesto Junior College women's and men's track and field team delivered outstanding performances at the 2026 3C2A Track and Field State Championships held at Mt. San Antonio College. The women's team finishing third overall in the state with 68 team points behind only Mt. SAC and Cerritos. Sophomore Shaylan Roy-Williams led the Pirates with a dominant championship meet, capturing the state title in the 100 meters, for the second consecutive year, with a winning time of 11.44, while also earning runner-up finishes in both the 200 meters (23.68) and long jump (5.84m). Julia Pedretti added a fifth-place finish in the discus throw and seventh in the heptathlon, while Larissa Hackley placed fourth in the heptathlon and ninth in the high jump. The Pirates also excelled in the vertical jumps as Rylan Steckler earned runner-up honors in the high jump and added a ninth-place finish in the pole vault, Claire Pierce finished fourth in the pole vault, and Isabela Ashe placed fifth in the high jump. Savannah Brown contributed points with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, while the women's 4x100-meter relay team placed fourth, and the 4x400-meter relay team added a sixth-place finish to cap a remarkable weekend for the Pirates.
The MJC men also turned in an exceptional showing, finishing fifth overall in the team standings with 47.5 points against the top competition in California. Freshman Marcus Madoski delivered one of the top performances of the entire championship meet by winning the state championship in the decathlon with 6,921 points, winning individual decathlon events 100 meters, high jump, 400 meters, and discus throw during the two-day competition to lead the Pirates. Marcus also tied for third in the high jump at 2.00 meters. Freshman Levi Perez also captured a state championship for the Pirates in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.61 meters, while teammate Semaj Moore added a sixth-place finish in the same event. Kaden MacDannald earned seventh in the javelin, Sebastian Arrizano placed seventh in the shot put, Oscar Tamayo finished fifth in the 1500 meters, Jayden Scarver earned runner-up honors in the 400 meters with a time of 48.05, and Sean Forte-Richard placed eighth in the 200 meters. The men's 4x400-meter relay team also scored with a seventh-place finish, helping complete a strong championship performance for the Pirates after both the men's and women's teams swept the NorCal Championships earlier this season.
