MJC Women’s Wrestling Secures Historic First Home Dual Win, 25–24
The Modesto Junior College women's wrestling team made history this week, capturing their first-ever home dual match victory with a thrilling 25–24 win over Santa Rosa Junior College. Competing in front of a supportive home crowd, the Pirates showcased determination, skill, and resilience in a milestone moment for the program.
This victory marks a significant achievement as the 2026 season represents the inaugural year of women's wrestling at Modesto Junior College. From the opening matches, MJC set the tone with strong individual performances across multiple weight classes. The dual came down to the final bouts, with the Pirates edging out Santa Rosa by just a single point, highlighting the competitiveness and grit of the team. The energy inside the venue reflected the magnitude of the moment—not just a win, but the beginning of a new era for Pirate athletics.
The addition of women's wrestling also brings Modesto Junior College's total number of athletic programs to 22, further demonstrating the college's continued commitment to expanding opportunities for student-athletes. The program's early success is a testament to the dedication of its student-athletes and coaching staff, who have worked tirelessly to establish a competitive and cohesive team in its very first season.
Fans will have another opportunity to support the team at home during the MJC Women's Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, April 4 at 9:00 a.m. The event promises to bring together strong competition while continuing to build excitement around one of the newest and fastest-growing programs on campus.
With a historic first home victory now in the books, the Modesto Junior College women's wrestling team is quickly making its mark—and this is only the beginning.
